Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has come out finally with the
much awaited notification for the Civil Services Examination 2014.The
number of vacancies to be filled on the result of the examination is expected to
be approximately 1291 which include 26 vacancies reserved for P.H. Category, i.e.
12 vacancies for LDCP, 2 Vacancies for B/LV and 12 Vacancies for H.I. The final
number of vacancies may undergo change after getting firm number of vacancies
from Cadre Controlling Authorities.

TO APPLY:
Candidates are required to apply Online by
using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in Detailed instructions for
filling up online applications are available on the above- mentioned website.
Brief Instructions for filling up the "Online Application Form" given
in Appendix-II.

The online Applications can be filled up to
30th June, 2014 till 11.59 PM after
which the link will be disabled.
PENALTY
FOR WRONG ANSWERS:
Candidates should note that there will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.

Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ ST/PH
Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs.
100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of
SBI by Cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/ State Bank
of Bikaner & Jaipur/Sate Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/ State Bank
of Patiala /State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.
Plan
of Examination:
The competitive examination comprises two
successive stages:
(i) Civil
Services (Preliminary) Examinations (Objective Type) for the selection of
candidates for Main Examination; and
(ii) Civil
Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates
for the various services and posts.
Scheme
and subjects for the Preliminary and Main Examinations:
A. Preliminary
Examination
The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory
papers of 200 marks each.
Note (i) Both the question papers will be of
the objective type (multiple choice questions).
(ii) The question papers will be set both
in Hindi and English. However, questions relating to English Language Comprehension
skills of Class X level will be tested through passages from English Language
only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
(iii) Details of the syllabi are indicated
in Part A of Section III.
(iv) Each paper will be of two hours
duration.
Blind candidates will however; be allowed an
extra time of twenty minutes for each paper.

Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of

Note 1: Questions relating to English Language Comprehension
skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper‐II) will be tested
through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation
thereof in the question paper.
Note 2: The
questions will be of multiple choices, objective type.
Note 3: It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers
of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore
a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she does not appear in both the
papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination.
